The Circus Doc Mission

Bridging science and circus by advancing understanding of circus-specific movement and translating sports science to enhance performance, education, specialized clinical care, and career longevity for artists at every level.

For Clinicians

Fill the gap between what you learned in school and working with artists who touch their buts to theirs heads and fly through the air for a living. Build your confidence with the skills needed to understand the awe inspiring "circus normal".

For Instructors

Take your circus knowledge to the next level using the most current science of circus, sports, and medicine, so that you can help your students' level up with less effort and injury.

For Artists

Understand your circus body from a science backed perspective and fill your brain with the knowledge you need to break through physical barriers and give yourself a professional leg up for a long and healthy circus life.

meet the doc!

Dr. Emily Scherb Emily received her graduate training at Washington University in St. Louis where she focused on learning human movement as a system. She continues to be involved with education as a fellowship mentor and as a provider of continuing medical education. Her focus as an educator is on circus and aerial artists.

As a clinician, Dr. Scherb uses a thorough evaluation process to focus on the underlying cause of symptoms and to recognize patterns of movement that can cause or perpetuate injury. Her unique background in movement as a dancer and aerialist and teacher uniquely prepare her to address all of your aches, pains, and movement questions.

She is comfortable with a challenge and has worked with many patients who have not seen results with traditional physical therapy due to her unique approach centered on patient education and movement training for a long-term solution.

Dr. Scherb is the author of the book Applied Anatomy of Aerial Artists and works with professional and pre-professional circus artists through her positions as Resident Physical Therapist at the School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts and as the Company Physical Therapist for Acrobatic Conundrum, a contemporary circus company.

Emily is on the board of Seattle Dance and Performing Arts Medicine and the American Youth Circus Organization/American Circus Educators.
